I decided a while ago that I wanted to focus on surrealism, but didn’t end up taking the jump until recently. There are many times that I have imagined myself opening doors to creativity in my mind… This idea (the side profile of a face in a tree) came to me and the need to paint it was overwhelming, I love that feeling… as long as I am not separated from my art supplies for too long. There are times when I don’t have a car, and my art studio feels far, far away. With the surrealism series, I plan to create moods, use different techniques, play with color and concepts, etc. What can I say, I am in love with art!
I am currently working on my next painting which is a desert scene. To make it surreal, I changed the sky to a cactus, the cactus to the desert and the desert to the sky… and the cactus flower is the sun. I wasn’t sure this painting was going to work out… but it is looking cooler as I add to it, hehe.
For the next painting, I kept getting a picture of a white mask in a moody desert background come to mind… with only one canvas left for the moment, I wasn’t sure about the idea and then decided to just go for it! The feeling for me while painting is that to be human is only temporary, and as much as we try to stay here (stretched area), we are only temporary (cracking away). It is not done yet… and there is more to the image than this photo posted below.
Eye with descending staircase (9×12 Oil on Canvas):
I will continue to update this post over the next few months with paintings as I go along.
